Michael Burns is the general manager of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). Serving an area that is home to Silicon Valley - and some of the nation's worst congestion problems - VTA is both a transit provider and a multi-modal planning organization involved with transit, highways, bikeways, and pedestrian facilities. The agency's current high-priority project: a proposed 16-mile extension of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system into the VTA service area. The Eno Network editorial team asked Michael, who is also an Eno Board of Directors member and co-creator of the Foundation's Center for Transit Leadership professional development program, to share some of his thoughts about transit and highway challenges facing his agency and his views on the outlook for grooming future transit leaders. Read a full transcript of his remarks.

Heather Wishart Shriner, P.E., has enjoyed an interesting career in the years following her selection as an 1997 Eno Fellow, one that has included managing construction and public works projects for the U.S. Navy and stints with two of the country's leading engineering and planning firms. She says Eno's Leadership Development Conference (LDC) program provided her an incredible opportunity to learn about transportation policy and to build her own professional network with peers that has grown over the past decade.
