AASHTO National Transportation Management Conferences

In support of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the Foundation conducts National Transportation Management Conferences for emerging leaders of state departments of transportation. The intensive week-long courses, developed under the guidance of AASHTO's TEAM (Transportation Education and Management) Institute Steering Committee, help participants acquire the skills and vision they need to advance into senior leadership roles.

Course topics include:

  • Recognizing the manager's multiple jobs,
  • Planning for change, 
  • Selecting goals and managing performance, 
  • Improving communication and motivation skills,
  • Supporting diversity within the Department of Transportation,
  • Building negotiation and conflict resolution skills, and 
  • Coping with stress.

2006 course dates are:

Portland, Oregon—June 25-30
Park City, Utah—July 23-28
Savannah, Georgia—August 13-18
Williamsburg, Virginia—September 10-15*
Mystic, Connecticut—September 24-29
Williamsburg, Virginia—October 15-20

*Additional course added due to high number of nominations.
