Eno Transportation Foundation policy forums bring together public and private sector leaders to discuss important emerging issues in the transportation field. The goal of these non-partisan forums is to share information and perspectives, consider innovative approaches to transportation problems, and develop a consensus for future action.

Eno executives work with partners in government and industry to identify topics for in-depth focus. They consider issues in both passenger and freight movement and developments across all transportation modes including highways, maritime, aviation, and transit. Special attention is paid to transportation's role in assuring U.S. competitiveness in the global economy.

The Foundation hosts a number of forums each year. Formats include day-long roundtable discussions, multi-day intensive workshops, and a series of lunch presentations scheduled over several months.

Recent forum topics have included:

Logistics Education. With state and regional planners responsible for freight and logistics coming under increasing pressure to produce results on goods movement, intermodal demand, and clean air issues, the Foundation convened a two-day forum in Atlanta to examine logistics education requirements for professionals working at metropolitan planning organizations, state DOTs, and other public agencies. One of the forum's key goals was to define a new framework for education in logistics and, in doing so, set an agenda for expanding the nation's goods movement capacities through improved management. Approximately 40 leaders from industry, government, and academia participated in the event, which was held in cooperation with Georgia Tech, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Secretary's Policy Office at the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Efficient Goods Movement and the Environment. This policy forum luncheon series, supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, examines how the increasing volume of freight moving into and across the United States is affecting the nation's land use, energy consumption, highways and waterways, and the environment. Each luncheon session features an expert presentation that addresses an aspect of the series' theme, followed by discussion. Forum participants have included representatives from industry, the environmental community, government, and academia. The series is exploring what strategies can be utilized to address environmental concerns while also promoting economic efficiency.

The Future of the Aviation Industry. The Foundation hosted a day-and-a-half forum to discuss the future of the aviation industry. The forum discussion was structured around three key topics: the commercial aviation industry today and tomorrow, the capital infrastructure requirements for the industry over the next five years, and system performance requirements for the next decade. The forum drew attendance from the full spectrum of industry actors, including Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta. Read the forum summary report.

Global Climate Change Seminars. The Foundation conducted a two-year series of monthly seminars where speakers discussed transportation science and policy issues associated with global climate change. Eno published a report detailing the topics, ideas, and discussions that came out of the forum. Purchase forum report.
