Past Eno policy forums have addressed topics that include: Efficient Goods Movement and the Environment. This policy forum luncheon series, supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, examined how the increasing volume of freight moving into and across the United States is affecting the nation's land use, energy consumption, highways and waterways, and the environment. Each luncheon session featured an expert presentation that addressed an aspect of the series' theme, followed by discussion. Forum participants included representatives from industry, the environmental community, government, and academia. View Logistics Education forum presentations and papers The Future of the Aviation Industry. The Foundation hosted a day-and-a-half forum to discuss the future of the aviation industry. The forum discussion was structured around three key topics: the commercial aviation industry today and tomorrow, the capital infrastructure requirements for the industry over the next five years, and system performance requirements for the next decade. The forum drew attendance from the full spectrum of industry actors, including Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta. Read the forum summary report. Global Climate Change Seminars. The Foundation conducted a two-year series of monthly seminars where speakers discussed transportation science and policy issues associated with global climate change. Eno published a report detailing the topics, ideas, and discussions that came out of the forum. Purchase forum report. Transportation Options for a Maturing Population: Strategies and Tools for Communities and Decision Makers. The Foundation brought together over 80 transportation planners, public officials, elected leaders, social workers, transit officials, and others to engage in a discussion of what individual communities and the nation as a whole should be doing in transportation to ensure a healthy future for aging citizens. The forum addressed the issue of how to keep individuals mobile as they age-whether in private automobiles, on public transport, or on foot. Mobility was seen as a critical factor in allowing residents to remain active in their communities, with access to social and recreational activities, shops and restaurants, and health care services. Working Together to Address Induced Demand. The Foundation teamed with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Highway Administration to develop a better understanding of induced demand and explore whether plans, policies, and models adequately address travel demand induced by the provision of additional transportation infrastructure. Purchase forum report. Forum on the Nation's Future Highway Systems: The Role of Toll Financing and Value Pricing. The Foundation worked with the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Policy on this forum, which reviewed a vision of an expanded future highway system, particularly in growing metropolitan areas, and addressed possible means for funding these expansions. Forum on Innovative Financing Techniques. This forum, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Policy, investigated various value pricing techniques on a particular highway corridor. Forum to Examine Alternative Approaches and Key Issues To Involve Rural Elected Officials in Planning and Decisionmaking. On behalf of the Federal Highway Administration, the Foundation brought together a select group of elected officials, planners, and engineers to discuss how state and local agencies can work together to make better transportation decisions. Financing Freight Transportation Improvements. This conference, which the Foundation managed for the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Freight Management and Operations, brought public and private interests together to identify issues in funding freight projects and to strengthen partnerships that support economic growth and development. Toward Improved Intermodal Freight Transport Between Europe and The United States. The Foundation organized this fourth in a series of discussions with the European Union, European shippers and carriers, and their U.S. counterparts. Purchase forum report.
