Report Released on Fall Policy Forum

Participants in the Eno Transportation Foundation's Fall Public Policy Forum reached consensus on nine major recommendations for submission to the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission.

Forum Recommendations:

  1. The US government should have a clearly stated national transportation policy that recognizes he essential link between America's future global economic competitiveness and the vitality of its passenger and freight transportation systems.
  2. National policy makers considering plans for the future of transportation in the US should embrace the following key principles: system efficiency, development of all modes; responsiveness to diverse and changing demands; coordination across modes and among many stakeholder groups; accountability and performance.
  3. Policymakers should set clear, consistent priorities for federal investments in transportation.
  4. Policymakers should consider issues of economic, geographic, and demographic equity in developing plans for transportation investment.
  5. Budgets for new transportation projects should reflect the full lifecycle costs and benefits of the investments.
  6. National policymakers must restructure the decision-making process for transportation planning and investment.
  7. Federal officials should review and determine whether the roles of each participating public agency in decision-making are still appropriate and necessary.
  8. Security should be an integral part of transportation planning and funding decisions.
  9. The Federal transportation program must contain a well-coordinated research and development component.

Forum participants stressed that policymakers must begin to look at transportation challenges from a fresh perspective. To address questions raise by the Fall Policy Forum, a second forum is being organized by the Foundation for September 2007.

Eno Welcomes February Arrivals "JT" Holl and Lindsey Robertson

Congratulations to Gina Holl, Eno's manager of professional development programs, and her husband Mike, on the arrival of their son Judson Thomas "JT" Holl on February 28, 2007.

Little JT made his debut at Eno HQ on April 24. He and his mom traveled from their Arlington home to Farragut Square by Metro. Fresh off the train, a smiling JT reported that he looks forward to using public transit for many—well, at least 100—years to come.

To the delight of her colleagues, Gina returned to work in May.

Meet Lindsey Robertson—Eno's program coordinator and newest staff member. "I love it here," says Lindsey, a Skaneatles, NY, native. Lindsey graduated from Marymount University in Arlington, VA, with a Bachelor's degree in English. She was welcomed aboard in February and was immediately immersed in a demanding routine that included coordinating Eno leadership programs, and helping launch the recent International Transit Studies Program (ITSP) mission to the Pacific Rim.

"It was very intense right up to the last moment," said Lindsey. "I'm working with really wonderful people," she said, "and for an organization I believe in. What more could I ask for?"
