Steve, a frequent participant in Eno's Annual Leadership Development Conference, is the first President of the Eno Transportation Foundation to have previously served as a member of its Board of Advisors. "I'm delighted to be joining Eno at this critical time for the transportation industry. Eno's policy forums, leadership development programs, and role as an information provider are today more relevant than ever as all modes of transportation cope with a number of congestion, financial, environmental and other challenging issues. I look forward in working with the Board and the greater transportation industry and communities to chart our collective course," said Steve Van Beek. "The Eno Transportation Foundation is proud of its heritage and role as a neutral or objective venue for the transportation community to examine the critical and ever changing policy, governance and operational issues confronting the transportation sector" stated Lillian Borrone, Chairman of the Board. "Steve Van Beek's expertise and experience as an academic, federal transportation executive, and practitioner of transportation policy makes him an excellent fit with the Foundation's future mission and direction." Borrone continues, "As we proceed with Eno's mission to cultivate private and public sector leaders and provide leadership on policies which advance the mobility of goods and people in a global environment, we must be ever mindful that transportation is a means to an end. Whether the end is economic, social, environmental, security or defense, those objectives and values require that we be multi-modal and inclusive. Eno's role is to act as a catalyst for defining and developing the understanding of those issues and set the stage for the emergence of the strategies to deal with them effectively." Steve will succeed Thomas M. Downs, who announced his plans to retire in January, 2008. Tom has served as President/CEO of the Foundation since 2003. During Tom's tenure, the Foundation has gained financial strength, increased its recognition for its professional/leadership development programs and broadened the diversity of its policy forums. Lillian Borrone thanked Tom, saying "Your outreach to the entire transportation community to encourage the development of leaders through their participation in formal, well developed experiential training curricula has contributed significantly to the professionalism of our transportation leadership." |
